Spine Pain Injections, Nerve Blocks and Epidural Steroids

Neck and back pain can be treated with this minimally invasive method.

What is a Spine Pain Injection?

This is a procedure to deliver medications directly to the spinal nerves and joints to decrease inflammation and pain.

What are the different types of Spine Injections?

These include: Epidural steroid injections. These are given for conditions such as herniated

or slipped discs, spinal stenosis, sciatica.

Another type is Facet Joint Injections. These are used to diagnose, treat pain from the facet joints which are located between each vertebrae.

Another common injection Dr Raj performs is a nerve root block. This delivers an anti-inflammation steroid medication and pain reducing medication around the back/neck nerves.

What are there risks involved?

Dr Raj performs these treatments under accurate ultrasound or X-ray guidance in  the Hospital Theatre Room. The procedure has small risks associated such as bleeding, infection, and rarely nerve damage.

What are the benefits I can expect?

By using small needles to target the regions of pain/swelling, we can reduce pain in more than 70% of patients. This enables patients to return to their active lifestyle earlier, avoiding major surgery.

Please contact our clinic if you wish to find out more about this treatment.

Spine Radiofrequency Ablation(RFA) Injections

These are procedures to reduce long term severe pain originating from the spinal discs and joints.

What does RFA for the Spinal Facet Joints Involve?

RFA can reduce severe pain originating from the spine joints. It uses targeted radiofrequency(RF) energy to heat and partially disrupt nerves that are responsible for transmitting pain signals to the brain

What conditions can RFA be used for?

RFA can be used for treatment of spine pain from Facet Joint Spondylosis('wear and tear' of the small joints which connect the vertebrae). RFA can also be used to treat pain from the Sacroiliac Joint(these joints connect the lower spine to the pelvis).

How is the RF treatment delivered?

The radiofrequency energy is given by small needles inserted into the back to treat the nerves and joints.

Good relief of spine pain can be expected.

What are the Benefits from RFA?

RFA can alleviate the spine pain in up to 70% of patients. This enables patients to get back to their jobs, and daily lifestyle activities.

Radiofrequency

Other conditions which can also be treated

Slipped disc sciatica pain can also be treated by radiofrequency energy. This method uses a much higher energy Coblation RF energy. This vaporises and shrinks the prolapsed disc to relieve pressure on the nerves. Dr Raj has used this treatment method since 2017 with good results for patients.
